Available Position

Secretary

Job Description and Summary

Legal Secretary – We would like to hear from a suitably qualified and infectiously cheerful Secretary who would like to join our firm.

About the Firm

Bourke Legal opened its doors on 1 July 2021. Director Brendan Bourke has been a partner in Stone & Partners (1996 – 2005), Bourke Love McCartney Young (2005 – 2009) and Bourke Love (2009 – 2021). Fellow Director Pania Watt has been working with Brendan since 2004.

We have offices in Ballina and Kingscliff (2 lawyers in each), 1 lawyer who works remotely full-time and 8 full-time or part-time support staff.

About the Role

This is a permanent full-time position, and one that will provide ongoing training and development.  We offer flexible working arrangements and will also consider those looking for a part-time role.

You will be providing support to a Solicitor practicing in Personal Injury, Workers Compensation and Common Law cases.

Initially, the role will involve assisting the team with the day-to-day functions of the office, maintaining a solicitors practice, dealing with phone calls, correspondence, arranging medico-legal appointments. This role won’t suit you unless you are highly organised, good with logistics, can think on your feet and you like dealing with people. It is also really important that you enjoy being part of a team.

As the role develops, it will involve drafting statements, drafting court documents, and putting together briefs to Barristers, Engineers and Doctors.

About you

Legal office experience is preferred but not essential, however experience is an office environment in a must and enthusiasm, intelligence, and initiative will get you a look in for this role.

Life at Bourke Legal

Our culture and benefits are something we’re proud of, and everyone seems pretty happy to be working for our firm. As a firm we have invested heavily in technology that helps our staff to do their jobs more efficiently, and to work from anywhere, and we continue to explore new ways to improve those systems even further.

We will support you with the technology, coaching, flexibility and trust that you need to develop your skills, confidence and reputation as a lawyer.

We are happy to sponsor and support the right person, and we offer flexible days, flexible hours, flexible work methods and work from home or remote locations. Getting the right person for our team is more important to us than being married to old-fashioned ideas like coming to the office every day and working 8:30 to 5:00, 5 days per week.

Salary and conditions

We pay better than average salaries in non-metropolitan NSW. If you’re the right person, we will pay you the right salary.

Please email your resume and relevant qualifications to our Practice Manager, Lisette Lyons, at lisette@bourkelegal.com. Applications will be held in the strictest confidence.
